Boutique Hotels Edinburgh – grab a stylish bargain

We love nagging a bargain here at Edinbrugh Hotel Deals but that doesn’t mean you have to stay in a hostel or an ultra-cheap hotel to save money. There are also loads of great deals to be had on boutique hotels and luxury hotels in Edinburgh.

Today, I’m going to concentrate on boutique hotels and highlight a few of my favourites for 2016.

First of all let’s have a quick discussion on what a boutique hotel is. Well, there’s no clear definition but I would say a boutique hotel in Edinburgh is somewhere that is quite small, stylish, independent (i.e. not part of a large hotel chain), and full of character, be that old-world charm or contemporary elegance. I hope that’s made things a bit clearer. The great thing about boutique hotels is that their room rates are often managed in-house, rather than by a far-off central office, as is the

Anyway, let’s dive in to My Favourite Boutique Hotels Edinburgh In 2016 – in no particular order.

  • G&V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh (5-Star) – this magnificent hotel (formerly owned my the Missoni fashion dynasty) is a pleasure to behold. It sits on The Royal Mile and boasts a super cool bar and an award-winning restaurant. Rooms are supremely stylish with bold colours and designs that are retained throughout the property. The strong colours and textures may not be to everyone’s tastes but fashionistas will love it. Oh, and all this glamour is backed-up by impeccable service.
  • The Howard (5-Star) – this stylish townhouse (well, 3 townhouses actually) is a refined and romantic masterpiece in Edinburgh’s hotel scene. At The Howard you will be waited for by a team of butlers, who will look after your every whim. Rooms are deeply comfortable and wonderfully ‘Old Edinburgh’, with rich textiles in deep colours.
  • The Edinburgh Residence (5-Star) – this wonderful collection of spaces boasts 29 luxury town house suites. And luxury is the key concept held throughout the building. Service, facilities and detail is supported by the most luxurious of offerings. The Edinburgh Residence is incredibly popular with business people returning to Edinburgh and who demand the finest in boutique accommodation.
  • Nira Caledonia (5-Star) – this magnificent and unique boutique hotel strives to achieve the finest in contemporary environment with the most impressive in personal service. This boutique hotel makes the most memorable in romantic retreats, its secluded location in the New Town help make it feel like you’re staying in a secret retreat in the middle of the city. Several rooms have hot tubs, which can make a romantic break in Edinburgh even more romantic.
  • Kingsburgh House (5-Star) – this impressive villa in the West End of Edinburgh is probably the smallest on my favourite boutique hotel list here today. There are only 6 bedroom to choose from, so choose quickly. All rooms have romantic four-poster beds to relax in, and rooms have all the luxurious extras required for a special stay in Edinburgh. The hotel’s owners are also very hands on and want to ensure you have a wonderful stay in their property, and come back again. The boutique hotel’s location near Murrayfield Stadium makes it a fantastic place to stay for guests looking for a truly unique rugby-centred break.

Although my favourite boutique hotels all appear to be 5-Star hotels, and may be at the limit of your budget, don’t fret, there are many 4-Star and 3-Star boutique hotels that offer magnificently stylish and romantic venues for a stay in Edinburgh. However, I don’t have the space here to cover these slightly more affordable Boutique Hotels Edinburgh but I will return to this topic very soon with more ideas for your stay in our city. To start searching today for the right boutique hotel deal for you just click on the search page above.

Come And Celebrate Burns Night In Edinburgh This January
Come And Celebrate Burns Night In Edinburgh This January

With Edinburgh’s Hogmanay being a distant memory, and the weather turning a lot crisper, you’d think that Edinburgh would be very quiet in January and that not much is happening in Scotland’s capital city, but you’d be wrong, so wrong.

January is a terrific time to visit Edinburgh as there are lots of hotel bargains to pick from and there’s still loads of unique and interesting things happening. For example, January 25th is Burns Night, and the country will be celebrating the life and loves of our national poet, and the restaurants and bars of Edinburgh will be buzzing with parties for the great man. Join us with a dram and a recite a few lines of inspiring poetry.

Also, the National Gallery has an impressive exhibition on during January that looks at the work of The Two Roberts: Robert Colquhoun and Robert MacBryde, two of Scotland’s most successful artists of recent times.

For those looking for a major musical show to enjoy the pop along to The Playhouse to witness Wicked, a global phenomenon on the stage. And for those with a little lust left for Xmas, then why not take a look at the family-friendly Aladdin at the King’s Theatre.

To help you back a hotel bargain this January, I’ve had a look at accommodation deals available over the month’s weekends, and highlighted a few below that really do offer tremendous value for money. So let’s begin (I’ve take a look at all types of accommodation, so there should be a deal here for everyone, regardless of budget);

  • The West End Hotel Edinburgh – this budget hotel and hostel is one of the best value-for-money places to stay in Edinburgh. The hotel has its own lively bar that makes it a great places to enjoy a meal, a band or a few drinks.
  • Edinburgh Minto Hotel – if you’re looking for a great value hotel on the south side of Edinburgh be sure to check out the Minto Hotel. The breakfasts here are ace, the bar is most enjoyable and the staff will put you at ease with helpful travel tips.
  • Novotel Edinburgh Park – if you prefer your accommodation with a few more stars (4 in fact) then you can grab a real bargain by staying at the Novotel at Edinburgh Park. This smart hotel offers free parking, and is supremely well connected to the city centre by train, tram and bus. Enjoy a few lengths in the pool, workout hard in the gym and relax afterwards in the restaurant and bar.
  • Apex Haymarket Hotel – this professionally managed hotel in the city’s West End offers a smart bar and restaurant for guests. The hotel is well loacted for transport links into Princess Street – Haymarket train station (Edinburgh’s second train station) is 100m away, as is the tram stop for Haymarket. Buses stop just outside the hotel so the choice of transport mode is all yours.

Whatever reason you’re coming to Edinburgh this January (2016) be sure to use our room search tool to find a deal that agrees with you and your budget. We search 100s of travel websites in an instant to find you the best value-for-money. Have a great trip to our city and I hope to see you soon.

Edinburgh is the perfect place to go for a stag or hen weekend. The city is constantly buzzing with popular restaurants, cool bars and lively nightclubs. plus, there’s loads of stag and hen activities to do – whisky tasting, cocktail making and DJ training to name just a few.

So, now you’ve decided to choose Edinbugh (it’s an easy place to get to from around the UK too), where should your group of fun-loving party people stay? Well, as you’d expect many hotels and apartments would prefer not to take stag or hen groups as they can be a bit noisy. However, the good news is that loads of places do welcome single-sex groups with open arms, and actively support groups to make the best of their time and money. To help point you in the right direction, I’ve listed below 5 group accommodation provides who welcome stag and hen groups.

  • Fountain Court Apartments is a group of luxury blocks dotted around Edinburgh. These apartments range from super stylish to comfortably cheap. You’ll be sure to save loads of cash on booking apartments and townhouses that sleep a large number of people. These apartments are very professionally managed, and have been well respected for years.
  • Haggis Hostel – this is one of my favourite ultra-cheap places to stay in Edinburgh. The location couldn’t be better, it’s literally a 2 minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley Train Station. Staying here will put you at the heart of the action here in Edinburgh.
  • Edinburgh Penthouse Accommodation – this sleek apartment in Leith sleeps up to 15 people. There’s loads of free on street parking here to, which can be a huge saving if your group members are driving in from various locations.
  • Stay Edinburgh City – these friendly guys are based right in the heart of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, and have a range of centrally located apartments to meet you stag or hen group requirements.
  • Smart City Hostels – this is another central and stylish hostel in the middle of Edinburgh’s Old Town. the hostel is large with its own bar and restaurant – you don’t need to venture from the premises, but you will.

Just a tip, on booking just mention that you are part of a stag or hen group so that the accommodation providers are aware and can make your stay in Edinburgh as fun as possible.

Party on, and I hope to see you in a bar somewhere in Edinburgh soon.

I know that it may feel like a long time before Summer 2016, but if you have any inkling that you may be coming to visit the Edinburgh Festivals then please do look at booking accommodation NOW. Not only will you get the choice of all the best places to stay, you’ll save loads of money booking now rather than later.

Below I’ve put together a few tips and ideas on how to save a lot of money on booking accommodation in Edinburgh for the festivals in 2016.

There are a number of festivals running across Edinburgh during July, August and September 2016, so check out where you need to be in the city and look for nearby accommodation. You may not need to be in the city centre.

If city centre room prices are a bit too much for you then be sure to check out accommodation that’s a wee bit further out. Edinburgh has an excellent bus, train and tram transport links that you can whisk you in to the city centre from your hotel in no time at all (Edinburgh is not a big city really) and at a low cost – buy a travel card to save even more money.

If you’re on a limited budget then you can grab a bargain on accommodation by staying at one of the University accommodation sites. During the Summer months whilst Edinburgh students are back at home, the city’s univeristies opne their accommodation doors to city visitors. There have been loads of new student development built in the city centre over the past 5 years, so lots of univeristy accommodation is very modern, spacious, well-served by facilities and private – it’s not all communal living rooms and shared toilets these days, think cool accommodation.

For those looking for more luxurious accommodation I’d suggest looking at a few of the 4 and even 3-star hotels in the city, as well as the 5-star hotels. When you’re busy watching festival shows, enjoying the bars and trying out the food, you may not have time to use all the facilities that a 5-star hotel can offer – gym, full-length pools etc. 4 and 3 star hotels offer luxurious rooms, without paying for all the additional services you may not need.

My number one tip is to book your accommodation now to save money and save time hunting accommodation nearer the date.

If you have ANY questions at all about booking accommodation in Edinburgh then please do contact me using the form above, I’d be delighted to help. Or of you’d prefer to start searching hundreds of hotel booking websites all at once the please head to my site at edinburghhoteldeals.org. Thank you.

It’s not long now until the Edinburgh Festival begins in 2016 (believe me, it comes around quickly). The first thing to point out is that there is no Edinburgh Festival. What?!?! Don’t worry, the Edinburgh Festival is actually made up of a number of excellent festivals all rolled into one – or rather, most of the running at some point during the month of August. You can get details of many of the festivals by clicking here.

Tip: If you are planning a trip to Edinburgh for the festivals (or at any time) I’d suggest searching and booking accommodation ASAP. Edinburgh accommodation can become very pricey as the city is very popular. By searching for rooms using the search box on the left you will be able to compare room rates across all the leading websites.

I’ve also put together a few ideas on how to get even cheaper accommodation in Edinburgh for all the festivals this summer;

  1. Look at staying a bit further out of the city centre. Edinburgh has a fantastic bus network so you can stay out of the city centre and save a lot on hotel room rates.
  2. Check out serviced apartments. Edinburgh has loads of apartments to rent so check these out for great deals – especially if you are travelling with a group.
  3. Get free parking. Parking on the street in the centre of Edinburgh is very expensive. Parking in multi-storey car parks are also difficult. Choose a stay at a hotel with free onsite parking and you’ll save a lot of money.

Tip: Make sure to use the excellent Edinburgh Festival Fringe App on your smartphone – this has made scouring the event listings a whole lot easier.

Update: You can also buy Fringe tickets via the official Fringe Facebook App.

Tip: Book Edinburgh Fringe Festival tickets here before you come. One of the easiest ways to pick up tickets is at the Fringe Shop on The Royal Mile. They have a great system set up where you can just pop in to the shop with your booking number and the fancy machines will print your ticket off in a second. The other option is to join the long queues!

Funnyman Alexi Sayle will be performing this year at the Fringe and I’ll be going along to see the big man. Hope to see you there.

Tip: There are loads of other smaller festivals going on in Edinburgh during August, such as the Turing Festival or Festival of Spirituality and Peace. Check out all the other small and quirky things going on in Edinburgh.

BIG TIP: Use the search box on the left hand side of this page to compare room rates in Edinburgh across all the leading hotel booking sites.

It’s not long now until the biggest party of the year here in Edinburgh – that’s Hogmanay!

Still fancy joining the party? Then check out below for some of the best accommodation deals still available to all!. And remember, festivities run for several days so make sure you visit for more than one night to make the most of your New Year.

  • The Ibis Budget Edinburgh Park is one of the best secrets in town – the hotel is only a short tram or train ride from the city centre but offers amazing value for money. Start the New Year in style.
  • Travelodge Edinburgh Airport – this is another hotel that’s out of town a bit but well connected with regular buses taking you straight into town and to the party.
  • The Novotel at Edinburgh Park offers very fashionable rooms, and loads of 4 star facilities – stylish swimming pool, smart bar and friendly restaurant to name but a few.
  • For those who want to stay walking distance from the Hogmanay events and parties on Princes Street then you should take a look at the low room rates available at the Tune Hotel Haymarket.  Guests can fine tune and pay for the facilities and services they really want.

This year’s Hogmanay is set to be one of the best yet, with Lily Allen the way. Take a look at the video below to see how last year’s event blew the place apart.
